Removing Duplicate Files using dupeGuru

When your computer slows down, we usually clean up our hard drives using an anti-virus, or install software’s that has the capability to remove unnecessary files like, missing DLL’s or temp files.  And there are times that we tend to forgot, that we put a lot of files in our computer and when the time comes that you want to remove it, you will surely scratch your head and also when you can’t identify which is, TO BE or NOT TO BE deleted.  How much more, when you have a lot of files in stored, and you also have a lot of partitions. Indeed, it’s cluttering our list of files.  Sometimes we opt for last resort which is reformatting the computer.

We should admit also that, sometimes we are lazy enough to scan all our drives just to determine or to locate those files having duplicates, right?! And duplicate files come in a variety of flavors. You may have very similar images, music files that contain same song but different sources, or might be text that only differs with few lines of unique text. The tool, dupeGuru will surely be a big help to remove those duplicate files.

What is dupeGuru?
It is a tool to find duplicate files on your computer. It can scan either filenames or contents. The filename scan features a fuzzy matching algorithm that can find duplicate filenames even when they are not exactly the same.

This tool is very simple to use, just click the ‘+’ button and then just add the folders you want to scan. If you’re done, then just click Scan to start scanning. It will take time to scan though, depends with the size of the folder, I meant, how many files in stored on that certain folder.

After that, it will display those files having duplicate. You can view that file by simply double clicking it.
That files in blue are the original, and then below on it is/are the duplicates.

You may also filter the results, if you want only the duplicate files to be displayed, you can check the Dupes Only checkbox at the top.

Requirements
  • Mac OS X: 10.6 and up (Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion).
  • Windows: XP/Vista/Win7.
  • Linux: Ubuntu 12.04

Try it now, it’s absolutely FREE, but if you want to delete more than ten files at a time, then you’ll have to buy it. But I think, free is good.
